Nearly two decades ago, Tammie received her diagnosis of breast cancer. Seeing first-hand the disparities in support for Black women, Tammie and her sister Lynne started the non-profit Carrie’s TOUCH.

Carrie’s TOUCH’s mission: to improve the quality of life for African Americans by empowering them to make informed choices about their breast cancer treatment; and to change the way African Americans approach health issues by getting in TOUCH with the community through advocacy, awareness, education, research and support.

Today, Carrie’s TOUCH is an internationally renowned non-profit, supporting thousands of black women and men diagnosed with breast cancer. Currently, Carrie’s TOUCH is conducting a study with UCLA that gives voice to the unique experiences of Black women with breast cancer. As a first of its kind, this project is shifting the narrative about black women and their breast health.
